Desktop setupThe Workstation Support Services Team (WSST) within the Computational and Information Systems Laboratory (CISL) deploys and administers Linux, Macintosh and Windows desktops and laptops for staff in CISL, the NCAR Directoate, and the Advanced Study Program (ASP). Our purpose at WSST is to provide a full range of services, which implement the best available technology in the NCAR environment. WSST analyzes trends in the hardware and software markets and recommends equipment to be used by staff. The strategic objectives supported by WSST include all of the following:

  • Strengthen the CISL/NCAR/UCAR community including the supporting facilities and technology
  • Continue to improve administrative efficiency
  • Maintain and continually improve the physical and technological infrastructure
  • Design computational support around user needs and requirements

Centralized File Server -  WSST provides access to multi-terabyte storage over a 1 Gbps network.

Data Backup and Recovery - WSST provides backup options for desktop and laptop systems to ensure users do not lose valuable data.

Security & Software Updates - WSST applies updates and patches to Linux, Macintosh and Windows systems.

Virus Protection - Provided and maintained for laptops and desktops.
