How To Apply

How to Apply:

Please read through this entire page before applying.  Reaching out to references should be done early and in parallel (see what I did there?) to the other steps.

  1. Read Eligibility & Benefits to determine eligibility and academic standing

  2. Read through 2020 Technical Projects or CODE Intern to find one or two that match your interests.

  3. Get an unofficial transcript from your college or university.  You can likely download a free copy from your Student Portal.  Graduate students should include their undergraduate transcripts.

  4. Update your resume/CV

  5. Write a not-to-exceed one-page cover letter clearly describing each of the following five items:
    1. your technical interests and skills
    2. why you are interested in this specific project
      1. *TIP*  if applying to 2 projects, write 2 different cover letters to address why this project
    3. how SIParCS addresses your educational and career goals
    4. what you expect to gain if selected
    5. how your personal background and life experience may help you make unique contributions to the program (include social, cultural, familial, economic, educational or other opportunities or challenges)

  6. Asking for Letters of Recommendation
    1. ASK EARLY!
    2. Reach out to 2 people who can speak to your academic work and/or work ethic and ask if they are willing to serve as references.
      1. Academic related references preferred.
    3. When you have 2 references, submit your reference contact info
      1. *TIP*  you can (and should) complete this step before you submit your application
      2. Once you submit your reference contact info, your references will automatically receive an email from siparcs@ucar.edu with directions on how to submit a letter of reference
        1. Follow-up with your references to see if they received our email.  Ask them to check their Spam folder.
        2. Follow-up with your references to see if they submitted a letter.  Deadline for your references to submit a letter is January 17, 2020 at 5pm MST

  7. Prepare your application packet(s).
    1. Combine your cover letter, resume/CV, and transcripts into 1 PDF document
    2. Name the PDF “LastName_FirstName_ProjectNumber”  Example: “Doe_Jane_Project5.pdf” or “Doe_Jane_CODE.pdf” if applying to the CODE position
