Summer research in optimizing the efficiency of the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center involved a team working to analyze 2 years of data collected from the center. Several hundred sensors have collected multiple variables every 15 minutes over those two years including: power consumption, fan speeds, flow rates, etc. for both the water and air mechanical systems. The team effort involved engineering analytical tools for sensor feedback and developing operational control charts for predictive maintenance purposes. Condensing Water System, Side-Stream Filter System, Cooling Towers and Air Handling Units among others were investigated and control charts designed to forecast a equipment that is not operating optimally.
