Requesting HPSS file and directory changes

HPSS users often request changes to files and directories that remain behind when the individual who created or owns them leaves a project.

If you need to ask CISL to perform operations on HPSS files or directories – to change file ownership, group, account, or permissions, for example – include the following in your request:

  • Documentation showing the previous owner has given permission for transfer of ownership. An email from the previous owner is sufficient.
  • Explicit identification of the files, directories, or paths on which you want the operations performed. (In some cases, "All files owned by username" is sufficient.)
  • Owner, group, account, and permissions to be associated with the files. If some of these attributes are to be changed while others remain the same, state this clearly in the request.
