On Monday, May 22, 2017 CISL welcomed a new class of student interns into its Summer Internships in Parallel Computational Science program (SIParCS). The program offers graduate and undergraduate students the opportunity to work directly with CISL staff members on an 11-week research project. Projects allow students to gain significant hands-on experience in high-performance computing and related fields that use HPC for scientific discovery and modeling. This year’s projects focus on interest areas such as high performance computing, application optimization, machine learning, software engineering, interlanguage interpretability, data visualization, numerical methods, and data analysis. This year 14 outstanding graduate and undergraduate students were selected from a pool of 136 applicants from universities across the US.

The students' first day included various orientation and team building activities which allowed the students to learn about each other, NCAR, and their mentors. Throughout the first week, students will continue to acclimate to their new environment and outline their research project for the summer. At the end of the program, each student will give a formal presentation on their summer research to all CISL staff members. Click here to view 2016 SIParCS talks.
