In conjunction with the 2013 High Performance Symposium of the Front Range Consortium for Research Computing (FRCRC), NSF's Dr. Farnam Jahanian, the National Science Foundation (NSF) Assistant Director for the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Directorate, made a special visit to the NWSC. He was accompanied by Dr. Bill Gern, Vice President for Research at the University of Wyoming, and Dr. Robert Aylward, VP and CIO at the University of Wyoming, among others. The symposium was held at the University of Wyoming's campus in Laramie, August 13-15.

Gary New and Jim Vandyke of CISL gave the visitors a tour of the facility and answered questions about efficiency and green design, as well as day-to-day operations and long-term planning, and Marijke Unger discussed visitor statistics and outreach to school and local groups, including recent summer camp activities held at the center.
