Big Data and Long-Term Preservation: Challenges and Opportunities

Abstract
This talk will focus on the motivation for long-term preservation of data in "big data" projects, emphasising that the problem is much larger than "bit preservation" and argues that preparing for long-term re-use of data can also help us meet short to medium term goals. It calls for international and interdisciplinary action to address future needs but more importantly to "rescue" existing data before it is simply too late.
