Aspects of future large scale data handling

During the last 25 years we have been taking decisions on data handling influenced by different boundary conditions as are: disk space and tape availability, data format usage, lossy/lossless data compression including correctness checks, further on top compression, and collaboration requirements/compromises.

However, today's expectations for future data handling systems change the traditional processing aspects fundamentally: streaming is a paradigm which might take over.
