Start computing

CISL provides computing and data-storage resources to the university community for Earth system science investigations that are beyond the scope of university computing centers. You can get access to these resources by submitting requests for allocations.

University researchers can start computing on NCAR resources by requesting small-scale allocations to pursue your research objectives or using classroom allocations to incorporate these resources into your education and training programs. You can typically get started within a day or two.

For larger-scale allocations, the CISL HPC Advisory Panel (CHAP) accepts requests every six months, in March and September. The CHAP reviews the requests and allocates computational time and storage space according to the needs of the projects and the availability of resources. Large allocations are those made for more than 400,000 core-hours on Cheyenne.

Other computing options are available for researchers from the University of Wyoming and for NCAR lab researchers and scientists. Users who have questions related to those opportunities or allocations should contact their institution's own allocations representative.
